I was gifted this pothos plant by my bf’s mom. I’m new to plants and wanted some advice to help this thing thrive! Is this a good planter for it or does it need drainage?

needs drainage!! the top of that one leaf looks like it’s trying to tell you to save it’s roots. i would take them out, wash the roots and chop off any mushy/black parts, spray with 1:1 mix of hydrogen peroxide and water. replant in a smaller pot with drainage and a well-draining potting mix. my pothos really enjoy a mix of sphagnum moss, coco coir, worm castings, and chunky perlite/orchid park mix

For my golden pothos soil i use some orchid bark, perlite and peat moss. Typically i go about 40% perlite and 60 % peat moss for the bark you can use your discretion, i don’t typically put a lot. These plants are pretty resilient growers and bounce back quickly. You will want to give it bright in direct light and fertilize it regularly to provide it the nutrients needed. I agree with k_ashby_grows. When a leaf has any sort of discolouration, it will not return back to the green it once was. So you’re better off to trim around it. Due to it being in a glass “pot” A big step you need to take is to really inspect the roots, they should be a beige-ish colour. If you find any black and mushy roots, cut them off. These have rotted and will do more harm then good. As for watering, only water when the soil is about 50% dry (you can dip your finger in the soil to check) I would not recommend watering on a schedule as it’s all dependant on light, temp, humidity. With this information i know this plant will bounce back and thrive, i wish you luck and enjoy!! :)

Or you could use the same glass pot/ jar and grow hydro!💚 and completely disregard the soil. It may be sacrilege but I’ve had hydro plants that continue to grow without doing anything special (rarely fertilizing and changing the water lol)
