Here’s my pothos plant currently her leaves were dropping when I came back but I believe I just needed to water her, my question is the pot she’s in has a watering part at the bottom but I read things the I should be watering her soil at the top, I was wondering if it’s okay that I use the self watering at the bottom or should I start watering from the top???
It sounds like that self-watering insert might not be giving your plant enough moisture. You have a couple of options: you can try bottom watering by sitting the whole pot in water until the soil is fully saturated, then letting it drain—just be sure to remove the self-watering insert when you do this. Or, you can top water thoroughly until water runs out the bottom, then let it drain on its own. Personally, I let my pothos dry out between waterings, and they’re thriving. I’ve grown over 10 feet long, and my propagated cuttings are doing just fine too. I really believe in learning what works for each plant individually. I care for over 65 plants and have had a lot of success by paying attention to what they need—not just what the apps say. Those tools can be helpful, but they’re not always accurate. At the end of the day, every plant is different. I don’t know your plant personally, so take what works and leave the rest. It’s all about observing and adjusting to your plant’s specific needs.

The water reservoir might be too small. Keep adding water to the self watering pot until the top of the soil is moist. Then, drain the water from the reservoir to prevent root rot. Let the soil dry out before watering again. This process can be tedious with small reservoirs. The alternative is to fully saturate the soil by either top or bottom water. It’s a personal preference the method you choose.

I bottom feed mine and they’ve been thriving!
