I want to repot my golden Pothos, but I don’t know how big of a pot I should get it does size for a pot matter? Or can I use this pot

    Depends on the size of your plant. If you take a moment to click on the little magnifying glass at the upper right, you can do a search for “what size pot do I need?” Or “repotting a pothos, what size pot should I use?” That will take you to several suggestions. You can look through and find what you need to know.

    But just for future reference, it it’s usually recommended to use a pot that is an inch or two larger than the root ball. If you get too large a pot, the plant isn’t able to absorb the water quickly enough, so it will get root rot. Too small a pot, and the plant will get root bound and stunted and it will dry out too quickly.

      Got it so just big enough for the roots to touch the bottom of the pot?

      LOL! That’s a tough one. You could have the roots touching the bottom of the pot, but the top of the plant wouldn’t be above the rim of the pot. So that’s a bit misleading. In my opinion, I usually put some dirt/growing medium in the bottom of the pot, kinda nestle the roots on that soil, then adjust the level of it until it’s where I think it should go. Then I back fill, tap the pot a bit, add more soil, tap,etc. little by little until it looks like where it should be. Hard to describe in a text, but hopefully you’ll know what I mean. You can always do a google search or YouTube search on how to repot a plant. Lots of videos out there.

    You only go up 2 inches of the root ball. So if it’s in a 4 inch pot now do not go any bigger than a 6 inch pot.

    I would say keep it in a 4” pot if the root ball is 2”. When the roots grow into a 3” root ball, go to 5” pot. When roots grow to 4” root ball, go to 6” pot, etc. At least, that’s what I do. I learned the hard way that mine are more forgiving being in a smaller pot than they are swimming in too big of one. Hope that’s helpful.
