Please help! This is my newest and favorite plant. I got it from Walmart and I wanted to give it fresh new soil and I don’t know what happened. I’m very worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. First picture is when I got it, second was what the roots looked like, and the last few are how they are doing now (which I don’t think is good)
It looks stressed and the brown spots may be indicating a fungal or bacterial infection. I would trim off those leaves just to be safe. Make sure you’re letting them dry out slightly between watering. Let it get a little more light while it’s stressed.

I have learned that you should wait a couple of weeks or so before bringing a new plant home to repot it bc it takes time for it to acclimate to its new surroundings. They stress out. I have also learned that with that plant in particular (or at least MY plant) it needs well draining soil so I always add perlite to my store-bought soil. I let it dry out in between watering. Give it a chance, I think they’re pretty hardy overall. If it can survive Walmart it can survive almost anything!

separating was the best idea, she was definitely root bound, but right now it looks like shock. give it a week or two to adjust, and if problems continue something else is wrong. check for mold and pests. remember that pest treatments must be implemented multiple times before the infestation is fully cleared out. (~once a week for two months)

It could just be stress, if you were rough with the roots. Just give it medium light and medium water and keep an eye on it but try not to bother it

I would also suggest chunky soil. I use a mix of good soil, peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark. It gives them drainage, so their feet won’t stay wet. I would clean that root ball out. Get rid of any of that soil in there. Give it a pot about 2” bigger than what it came in. I would clip the dead leaves. Bright indirect light is crucial and if her soil is wet right now, I suggest letting it dry out.
