Can anyone tell me what type of palm tree this is? I thought it was a coconut palm but my parents told me it has never produced coconuts before.

It looks like a coconut tree. Do you happen to know how old it is?

10+ years and has never produced coconuts. Could there be a reason? I might try transplanting to a different location. I just want to get identification knowing it’s a coconut palm before I do so.

I can’t say that it is for sure but I know some coconut trees can take many years to produce fruit. Do you know if there are Rhino Beetles in your area? Hopefully not the case for you but they make coconut trees sick and prevent fruiting.

I have not seen any rhino beetles around us but am also just stumped because my parents have never seen any seed pods form either. I was under the impression coconut palms took 3-5 years to start bearing fruit and this is easily 10 years if not 15.

Maybe it’s not coconut but it sure looks like it to me. Sometimes it can take 10 years. I only know because I’m from the Mariana’s Islands and we’ve planted them growing up. We also dealt with a crazy Rhino beetle infestation that were invasive and killing off the trees.

Well I will transplant it and see if that helps it! Thank you!
