Hi i’m trying to pinpoint the exact name of this tree. The closest I could find in Planta was a Duranta erecta. Is this correct? It was a gift from my mother-in-law and she just always called it a butterfly tree.❤️ it is the absolute best tree for hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, hummingbird moths, everything loves this tree😍. Thank you in advance!

Indeed! Looks like a sapphire showers to me (duranta) I had one but it hated the spot I put it in. Feet stayed wet too long and it died.

Oh that’s terrible that yours died! I thought they were pretty hardy only because my mother-in-law gave us a bigger almost full size one before which we uprooted and transplanted into our yard across the county. It never even got stressed. I wasn’t into plants back then but later noticed how everything loved it. It has become a favorite 🥰 Thanks for your input! I’ll look at the sapphire showers one😄

That’s the name I’ve gotten for mine. I’ve checked several sites and got the same name. I’ll attach what I’ve been told

You’re welcome, I’m going to try and make mine into a mini tree. I bought her that way to begin with. Then planted her in the ground. Now I think next spring I’m going to dig her up and put her back in a pot. That way I can protect her from the cold. Alabama isn’t known for being that cold, but last year we got snow. Who knew? I wasn’t sure she would survive, but she did! So I’m going to give her a new look and see if she likes it! 🫠 good luck with yours.

Thanks! Yes I’m making mine into a mini tree also. I had one before but one of the hurricanes blew it over. I propped it back up hoping not to lose it. I then moved away and when I drove by again later saw that it was gone 😢 The one I have now has been doing so well but recently after a vacation came back to find spider mites all through it. I sprayed it with a jet spray all over and then that evening treated it with neem oil. It’s doing better but I see a few back so time to treat it again. Ughh I hate pests

Agree! Pesky little guys are a pain. I like Neem as well and keep it mixed and ready! Let me know how your process goes.
