Onyx Plant

Hi everyone! I bought this plant a while ago and I thought it was a Pink Princess Philodendron because it looked similar to the Pink Princess I already owned but after watching it grow for a while I am not so sure. My plant ID app says it's a Blushing Philodendron but I am still not sure because it doesn't match the some of the photos I've seen of them. Any help is much appreciated. Also any idea what that big yellow spot on that leaf is?

    Pink princess. Low variegation.

This is my nemesis plant. Unfurling leaves, damaged leaves. This plant is infamous for doing this. I’ve done everything for this plant, giving it as much humidity as possible. I have not seen a perfect one yet. This plant will make you think you have pests, some sort of infection, something wrong. This plant is infamous for doing this. I’d say mist unfurling leaves. It kinda helps. Or they will come out damaged.

I have two pink princess philodendrons, and I’ve never had a problem with either of them, (other than black spot…😖!) The original plant produced a baby almost immediately, which you’ll see in this pic. The mom is now producing another, which is still at the bottom of her stem. I know people think these philos are difficult, but if I can’t get them to stop producing babies…⁉️

IDK about that spot, but I think I would remove it, if it were mine. Any spotting on any of the other leaves? Good luck!

The spot kinda looks like damage that's infecting, I'd remove it. It does look like a low expression PPP but hard to tell from the side. The leaf shape is princess like

Perhaps your plant would have more variagation with a plant light???

He's in a South facing window in Southern California, I'm in zone 10, I don't want to burn him and adding grow lights to my plants has routinely burned their leaves. It looks like his new leaf has some varigation so hopefully that will continue. This is him from the top if that helps anyone. I cut off that damaged leaf before taking the picture.

Yea that's definitely a PPP just low variegation. If you add grow lights, make sure they are 8-16" away, and gradually increase the time from 2hrs a day to 10-16hrs over the course of a few weeks. So they harden off to the light.

What does low variagation mean? Is it actually a different kind of plant compared to mine? My PPP has lots of light pink and dark pink in it, so what is the difference? TIA!

Low varigation is when your normally varigated plant, like a Golden Pothos or a PPP, grow with little or no varigation for whatever reason. I got this guy from Home Depot with no varigation and ive been growing him in a bright window to help him grow his varigations back out. Sometimes when a plant reverts (like a Gold Pothos reverting to a Jade Pothos) there is not getting the varigation back but sometimes you can with proper care (large amounts of fertilizer in my case) and good light.

So it’s just the luck of the draw, that my PPP has this pretty variagation???
