Hi, I was wondering if anyone could ID this guy for me, I thought it was a star cactus but it is not, the leaves are too round.

Well, whatever it is, we definitely have the same plant! Planta says it’s haworthia cooperi, but cooperi is usually spiked and more slender leaves. These are very squishy but no teeth so I lean towards haworthia obtusa. I was looking into it before getting back to you and it looks obtusa might be a sub variety of cooperi. Still doing research.🤪 I wanna know for sure too! If you look at my profile and go to kitchen, you’ll see mine with recent pictures of my two. Looks just like yours after a year, except maybe bigger and one has been split off the other one. But same growth pattern and leaves. Here’s a link to obtusa https://links.getplanta.com/AcRS Check out Haworthia cymbiformis var. obtusa

Ok, I don’t know why some sites were saying it is a subvarient of coopers, seems the consensus is that it is not. It’s a cymbiformis obtusa, or just obtusa depending on where you look.

Thank you for the ideas and information. It makes sense it is a sub variant. It’s like it could be a obtusa but there are just a couple differences. Then it could be a cooperi but there are also some subtle differences. So thank you giving me some knowledge on this mystery!

Ours looks a little too pointy to be obtusa but too squishy and not toothed on the side to be cooperi. It almost seems like there’s a different variety I’m missing. Or are ours just obtusas that need more light and water?😅🤷‍♀️

I completely missed the teeth lol, I wonder if it’s just the individuality of the plant that makes them a bit pointier?

I only have hard leaf haworthia so I’m not sure about the squish factor…

Since we are having this discussion, here are mine. Please excuse the first pot. 🤪 I just repotted it a week ago to give it more space. It’s gradually moving to more and more sun. I know they are probably etiolated from being inside 😅 and it got rained on🤦‍♀️.

Pot #2 - if pot #1 doesn’t die out front, I’ll be moving these outside too.

Oops, this one is actually the same one as pot #1 before repotting. That’s what I get for just posting pictures from my photo albums.

      I have 4 retusa, but only 2 of these. I don’t know why I thought I had 3😅

Pot #3, same, will be moving it out front if pot #1 is successful outside.

I deleted my earlier comment bc it was wrong! Haworthia Cooperi var. truncata (or haworthia obtusa var. truncata, should not be allowed to call it that lol) - Not what you guys have. Haworthia cymbiformis var. obtusa - what you guys have.

Yep, definitely the second picture! Ok, that helps so much. Now I wont have to wonder if they are getting the right amount of sun and light! I keep thinking they are supposed to look like the clear top super round ones wondering what I’m doing wrong. But also realizing that the leaves don’t look like that ever, even when they freshly come out.🤪
