Aglaonema! Looks like a Siam of some sort
1 gillathank you so much!
0 gillningarDefinitely an aglaonema. Good luck with it! Would you like any tips for it? I got an aglaonema when I first started out with houseplants, and I was so sad to let mine go because of my dog. Theyâre a great low maintenance bunch once theyâre placed in a spot they like and potted in something chunky and well draining.
4 gillningarthe only problem Iâm having is fungus gnats but ive heard mosquito dunks can help
0 gillningarThey definitely can! Other options include a complete repot, which involves reducing it to its roots, spraying the roots with hydrogen peroxide, then using fresh soil to place it back in the pot again. The peroxide kills the gnat larvae. If you donât wanna go through all that, then try the mosquito dunks and some sticky traps for a few weeks until the gnats stop showing up. I just prefer repotting over spending weeks trying to treat the same soil, but itâs up to you and what youâre willing to do. Gnats are more annoying than dangerous to your plant, but they can be a sign that the soil isnât well draining or that youâre possibly overwatering your plant. I found my aglaonema liked its soil completely drying out between waterings. Another way of helping is bottom watering the plant (if youâre new to that, look up âhow to bottom water a plantâ on YouTube) so gnats arenât attracted to moist top soil, and sprinkling cinnamon or sand on the top of the soil to smother gnats trying to get out of the top of your soil. Hope this helps!
1 gillait has a self watering system, idk if thats the same as bottom watering but I just repotted it and the gnats seem to be gone (at least from this plant haha) but I will try hydrogen peroxide with my other plant that has gnats. Thanks so much!
