Goldfish

This twig is from a bouquet I got months ago, and it's.... Just stayed the same? It's been in nothing but water, that I've changed out every couple of weeks, and it's not died, but it also hasn't grown roots and /changed at all/. If I haven't trimmed the stem and been able to feel it's leaves I'd think it's fake lol anyone know what this is and why it's so.... Plastic?

Also, I've been adding a bit of this to the water, I'm pretty sure it's meant to water a bunch of flowers at once via hose, but idk, I figured I'd use it as plant food?

You could always try some “prop drops” which you can get on Amazon. It encourages props to grow roots. I’ve just ordered some, and have not personally tried it yet, but I hear other members talk about it. It might be worth a try!

I hadn't thought to use that, thanks for the reminder :)

is there a node on the bare part of the stem! if there isnt, it wont grow roots. you can take off the two lower leaves and make sure the node is underwater :)

Is this a thing specific to this kind of plant? I mostly work with succulents and I'm pretty sure they don't need nodes to propagate

i think theyre needed in most plants - i think leafy plants that are self heading even have nodes, which is how they grow pups, and why you can't propogate a single leaf. plants that have longer stems tend to have nodes; monsterras, philodendrons, pothos, hoyas, etc succulants can propogate with cuttings that have nodes and with just their leaves. maybe theyre not true nodes, but you need the part of the plant that is able to grow roots and pups. this could either be a (false?) node, or the part of the stem where the leaf was attatched. im not sure if succulants even have nodes tho, lol
