It definitely looks to be something in the crassula family. If your friend has any photos of the plant when it was younger, it might be easier to determine if it’s specifically a jade or another close relative in the crassula family.

I’d also like to note that it looks like the top of the stems have etiolated, or stretched out, leaving the leggy appearance in comparison to the bottom half of the stems, because the plant is searching for more light. To help with the leggy appearance, you can place it in a brighter spot or under a grow light, but the only way to fix the currently leggy parts of the stems would be to cut them between the leaves at the nodes. Once they’re under proper light they should grow back much less leggy and look more like the bottom half of your plant. If you’re new to pruning succulents or propagating them, I’d be happy to walk you through how to do so if you’d like. Hope this helps.

If this plant has a white film on the leaves (similar to an echeveria or other succulent), it might be a crassula arborescens, or silver dollar jade, which is a specific cultivar of jade that has a more pastel color in the leaves and a white protective film like other succulents to protect it from being sunburned. I found some photos of etiolated jades you can compare it to, if that helps.

This is a less stretched out jade. The look of the leaves makes me believe yours is a jade.

And this is my silver dollar jade, for reference. I think as long as you classify it something under the crassula family or crassula ovata or arborescens group, you should get the care information you need for this plant. 🌱
