Is this a heart shaped philodendron? Or something else? Some similar looking plants in the shops have monstera ids - but I don’t think this will develop slits - it’s not a young plant. I’ve seen its root system when I was repotting it and giving it some tlc (i got/saved it, unidentified, from fb marketplace, mostly looking dead). I live in the UK, if it matters, in terms of plant popularity.

This does look like a very neglected monstera to me. The fenestration in the leaves come with plant maturity. “Old” and “mature” are not always synonymous. Great growing conditions and neglected growing conditions could be the difference between fenestrations or not, regardless of the plant’s age.

i strongly think its a monstera, lol i would have a hard time believing HLP would get that big. the leaves also have a lack of sheaths from protecting the new growth, which is an easy way to tell the difference between Philos, pothos, and monsteras. in regards to the fenestrations, the most important factor for those appearing is light. the brighter the light, the more fenestrations. allowing the plant to climb can also help with this. i agree with the old and mature statement from above - in addition to this, a strong root system does not always indicate how old a plant is :)

Thanks for these comments! This really helps! I’ve never had anything other than cacti and succulents, so I’m not at all versed.
