Never clean leaves. - You can use a toothpick or wooden skewer to test if the soil is dry enough to water. If the stick comes out clean, it’s safe to water. If the soil sticks to it, wait at least 2 days, then test it again. - Placing the plant in a dish/saucer/cup with water for 10-20 minutes then resting it to dry is a great way to water it without getting the leaves wet. - Enjoys part-sun, part-shade to full-sun; 4-6 hours of sunlight . - Best kept at 61-75°F lowest temp survivable is 41°F. This plant is sensitive to drafts and should be pulled from cold spots in the winter. - Common problems are spindly growth/stretching (needs more light), yellow leaves and root rot (overwatering), and shriveled leaves (underwatering). - Common pests: Treat mealy bugs, scales, and aphids with isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip. Don’t let alcohol touch the soil. Treat thrips with insecticidal soap. - Repot every year with cactus and succulent mix. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix. Please avoid using Miracle Grow’s soil, even their cactus mix. It isn’t well-draining enough. You might want to downsize the pot it’s in if it doesn’t match the size of the root system. With kalanchoes, they like being more snug in their pots, and want to be in something no more than 1-2 inches wider I diameter than the width of the plant’s root ball. You might find it needs to be in a considerably smaller pot, but don’t be alarmed by that. A smaller pot will lower the risk of overwatering and root rot in the long run. - opt for a terra cotta pot with at least one large drainage hole or a plastic pot with plenty of drainage holes. Avoid glazed ceramic pots, and they’re meant for tropical plants that don’t like drying out, and will hold excess moisture that the kalanchoe won’t enjoy. - Toxic to pets if eaten.
4件のいいねWhy can’t you let the alcohol touch the soil? I’ve not heard this before.
0件のいいねI’ve been taught to try to avoid getting the rubbing alcohol on the soil, but was never told exactly why myself. My guess is that the alcohol might burn the soil or take some of the nutrients it gives the plant away if it comes in contact with the alcohol. That’s my best guess 😅
