Can anyone please help me identify this plant? I got it from Lowe's they had thrown it away and I asked to take it since it was in the trash to try and save it. It's tag just said assorted foliage.

    Cut off damaged leaves, being super careful not to be rough around the base of the plant. They like to poke tiny new leaves out of the soil as little nondescript cones and then get really mad if you touch their stupid little practically-invisible leaf cones. Water as neurotically as possible... I literally use a 3mL transfer pipette on my smaller calatheas but a gentle spray bottle would work too, or a bottle cap. I'd give it like one or two bottle cap fulls of water at a time over the course of like 20 minutes or so, making sure to let each capful soak in before adding the next. Stop at the very first sign that water has reached the bottom; the usual advice to have water running out the holes is not what you want here. After that, check on it again a little later and see if it needs another capful. I realize this is insane effort for a literal dumpster save, but what I've found with mine is that if I have neglected them for like... Two whole days, or something like that, they get all upset if I soak them.

    Is there a plastic planter inside the terracotta?

      Yes it's in a plastic pot with drainage holes :)

      Ooh perfect. If you live in a dry place the terracotta is probably fine. If you live in a moist place, take it out of the terracotta and put it directly on that grate. Air getting to the bottom of the pot is good.

    I think it’s a calathea and you might it be able to save it. Put it in nice indirect sunlight. Only feed it with either distilled or filtered water, and maybe get some fish tank conditioner and add a few drops.

      Is there a specific brand of fish conditioner that's safe? Or just any?

      Ooh yes good point. It does NOT want hard water or chlorine.

      I got one on Amazon called API STRESS COAT Aquarium Water Conditioner but I think anything from a pet shop would work.

    I would cut off all the leaves, down to the soil. Water with distilled water if needed, and then place it in a bright area. No sun. If roots are good, it will grow new shoots in no time.
