I just received a plant that I thought I would take a chance on. It's called a kangaroo paw fern. When I pulled it out of the box, all the leaves tumbled along with it. It's huge! I always buy tiny plants and learn from them. Gonna go find out what soil, watering, etc is best. Fingers crossed!
They like frequent watering, and the leaves make lots of little yellow spots if they are getting dehydrated. I haven't completwly figured out watering on mine, but I'd recommend a soil with good drainage and plenty of moisture retention (maybe do high drainage at the bottom and a moisture holding mix at the top?) The roots like to stay at/slightly above the surface, so a wide and shallow pot style should work well
