I recently received this alocasia of some sort from a friend who was killing it. I just have no idea what kind it is. And I’m not exactly sure how to care for it. I have tons of plants and am experienced, this is my first alocasia of any kind so I’m a little nervous about it lol.

Hmmm, doesn’t seem like it, the wentii has waxy glossy kinda leaves. These are almost fuzzy, like rough. It’s so hard to describe.

OH! what about an alocasia maharani? I literally just got one too and I know what you mean. It’s almost a turtle shell texture?

“Be aware that they are not suited to low light or direct sunlight - which may scorch their leaves. If the area your alocasia is in has not enough light, consider using a grow light to boost its foliage. Alocasia Wentii enjoy watering about every 2 weeks, frequent misting, and keeping their soil moist but not wet.” Sounds like they like humidity

My alocasias have given me the most anxiety of all my plants they're so temperamental 😩 bright indirect light I have one in a southern window and one in a west side window currently how many as long as no direct sunlight it's their leaves at any point because their leaves will immediately burn and die I have a couple half leaves or half the leaf is healthy and the other half turned brown and crispy and died 😭 so like I will tilt the blinds up towards the afternoon sun part of the day or I'm also putting up sheer curtains because my polka dot begonia has the same problem and they're right next to each other I definitely mist them every other day and I keep it humid in the sunroom probably in the '70s but the key is to fertilize monthly when I didn't fertilize in the winter they just didn't grow I mean I guess duh but see I'm a new plant person I'm not advanced like you so I'm probably not telling you anything LOL I will do better next year that's for sure 😁

Okay that’s good to know! The window sill I have them in might be perfect. It’s south facing but has an overhanging terrace outside, and it’s facing another wall from the apartment behind us. So it gets a lot of bright light but the sun never directly shines through. Hopefully it works. I just don’t want it to die. I will definitely fertilize tonight! All great info thanks so much!
