Hi friends, anyone a Kangaroo paw fern parent? Bought this one thinking that’s what it is, but the app calls it a Birds Nest fern. Seems dark enough to be a Kangaroo but there’s no “paw.” Does the kangaroo “paw” grow when plant is more mature? The leaves are pretty long so I would have thought it’d show the “paw” formation by now. Appreciate any tips you have!

What you’ve got there looks like a birds nest fern or Asplenium nidus. The kangaroo paw fern, Microsorum diversifolium, is an entirely different plant.

Could be a birds nest. Only thing I’m confused about is the fact that I have a plant that’s called a Hurricane fern but some people call it a birds nest 😭

Birds nest fern is the common name. Hurricane Fern refers to a specific breed of birds nest fern that was created and patented by the plant breeder (which I think is Costa Farms).

Looks like the hallmark feature of a hurricane is twisty leaves whereas regular birds nest leaves are more straight.
