hoya instagram friends/accounts
hi all! i try to come on here & start discussion posts every once in a while. but i think i’m going to start posting my collection on instagram to document growth & challenges (hopefully not too many)!
my account is @plantyashten… if you have a hoya-related instagram account, i’d be happy to follow you! it’d be great to make hoya friends, since there are no followers/messaging on this app yet. and perhaps down the line it could lead to a future of hoya trades (i’m located in ontario, canada).
thanks planta hoya hoarders!

Well this is wild! I thought compactas were slower growers— I’ve only had this guy for 17 days. 👀

reducing plant collection // multiple genera
hi hoya lovers! i’ve seen a lot of posts from “plant influencers” recently about reducing their personal collections, so it’s inspired me to reflect on which plants bring me the most joy, & which i could potentially remove from my collection.
recently (last year or so) i’ve really enjoyed growing hoyas, they’ve become my favourite genus, & approximately half of my collection. i am contemplating changing the direction of my collection to be primarily hoya, & i am wondering if you enjoy keeping multiple genera, or if you’re happy with just hoyas!
thanks!

My hoya got some early morning sun. This is my Hoya Loyceandrewsiana. I got it in October. I was hesitant to buy it with the spots. Later, I realized some hoyas growing outside at nurseries can get spots. They are not fungus related. Could be edema. No new spots appeared after it arrived.
It is a low maintenance plant that I can highly recommend. I keep it dryer than most of my other hoyas this winter. The large leaves hold water quite a while. There are no yellowing leaves or other plant drama that I sometimes forget to water it. I fertilize once every 6 weeks in these colder months. The leaves have grown larger since I got it. The largest leaf is almost 7 inches. This variety of hoya will need a trellis because of its thick stems and large leaves.

ID help?
I bought this as a hoya calycina cutting. I really don’t think it has the leaf shape or texture to look like calycina, but haven’t gotten a flower. The leaves are smooth on top and slightly slightly fuzzy on the bottom. Pardon the dust, it’s less fuzzy than it appears in these pics.
Any guesses? Possibly albiflora?

Had to share!
I received this Hoya Fungii as a free gift from a seller I frequent. Honestly I was more excited about getting a free plant but wasn’t really interested in the plant itself before receiving it. But I grew it nonetheless. The first picture is the approximate size of the leaves when I got it. The second picture is the most recent leaf. I must say. I’m surprised and super impressed. I never even considered the plant had this much potential. Excited to see what it could look like in the future! 🤩🤩🤩

Newest leaf on my Hoya Glabra.

Hoya flowers plus bonus dischidia watermelon flowers. They’re somewhat unremarkable but the plant is super happy. It’s about 3 years old. The callistophylla flowers look like little bunches of grapes when they first start out. I thought they’d be more colorful but the red petals reflex so you can barely see them.

Any of you fine Hoya heads wanna take a guess as to what this species is?
It was sold to me as Hoya Rigida, but it absolutely does NOT sun stress (like Rigida) and doesn’t even really tolerate bright indirect light.
She’s fine in a north facing window.
I thought maybe it’s a parasitica Laos?
Totally guessing.
I realize I’ll probably be able to identify her once she blooms, but figured I’d ask here first.

Not much going on with my compacta, but she’s healthy in the winter and that counts for something!

I bought this Hoya Fungii in September without fully researching it. I just liked the look of it, I wanted my first larger leaf hoya and the price was reasonable. It wasn’t in the best shape with several scratches, fertilizer/water deposits and a few broken leaves.
I cleaned it and gave it diluted fertilizer and SuperThrive. It got the darker natural color and put out new leaves. I found out later the leaves turn naturally fuzzy after emerging dark and shiny. I may have cleaned too much of the “water deposits” off the leaves!😁 It puts out one leaf a month.

My Hoya Iris Marie plants have grown well. Their new leaves are simply gorgeous!

What is the best trellis for Hoya’s Carnosa’s?
I feel that Carnie has outgrown this one. Also if there is one better suited for her, I’d like to help her.
Thank you 🥰

FINALLY getting a new leaf on the kerrii that I got late last summer. Not to jinx it lol. It dropped an adult leaf before I got it. Then dropped a pair of baby leaves the first week I had it. A second set of leaf nodes started to grow a while after that but then dropped one at a time. This node only seems to have activated on one side, but I’m really cheering for it! Maybe the trellis did the trick? I had a few people suggest one but I didn’t take it seriously at first 😅
Trouble
Hi there,
I’ve had this Hoya Hindu rope for over a year now and it literally hasn’t grown, hasn’t flowered, nothing. I know Hoyas are slow growers but I’m starting to think I could be doing something wrong. Someone send help 😂.

Hi community,
A few leaves of my plant started looking like this. Two fell off. I am not sure what to do. I got the plant early december and I watered it twice so far, last time one and a half weeks ago.
The soil is not wet, it doesn’t stick to my finger or anything but I wouldn’t say it’s completely dry because it feels cold to the touch.
Should I give it more water or is this caused by overwatering?

In 3 months time, my Ganung Gading has given me 4 new leaves with more on the way..
What a prolific grower she is!💚
