Hi guys. I received a fresh-ish Chelsea cutting yesterday in water. I don’t really see any roots yet (pic with dog being nosy). Can I switch it to Fluval and not confuse it? Also, I got three other Hoyas that are established and I noticed they all had beige stems down near the prop. The one in the picture almost looks like it was wrapped with mini cord or something. Is this a prop technique or a side effect of propping, or just these plants stem colors? The pic is of a Bhutanica.

    Your cutting should be fine going into Fluvial. I often try rooting in water but if it doesn’t work, I move the cutting into fluvial and it’s always worked super well. As for the beige on the stems, it kind of looks like “corking” due to mite damage. You need a microscope to see the mites (they are not visible with the naked eye). Cheap digital microscopes are available online. It could be old mite damage, which won’t heal but it won’t hinder growth. If it’s current damage, it will slow any new growth.

      Definitely! Your babies are so cute! Although my baby was trying to bite a Hoya vine hanging over my tv center earlier 😖. She stopped though when I told her to though 😆
