i know how bad it looks.. just hear me out 😭 i bought this plant a while ago and it just went completely down hill since i got it. i think its a hoya but im not sure what kind. when i got it the soil was very dry and old so i repotted it and it started dying over time. i tried to save what was left but it has absolutely no roots. it’s held on barely alive with no roots for some time now. i dont know what to do to save it lol 😂 she’s been ignored for too long, any advice would be greatly appreciated. maybe water prop to grow new roots?

I’ve found sphag moss for Hoya’s work better for propagating than just water. I keep it covered (ziplock or something) until it starts to show new growth. But thats just my experience!

this 💯‼️ moss or perlite propagate so much easier because of increased airflow (water is hard to keep aerated without a whole aquarium-like setup). which one comes out on top depends on your local environment. for me, on the humid east coast, perlite, pumice, or another inorganic semi-hydroponic substrate wins out for its mold resistance. sphagnum moss is usually a rot hazard in my home.

Well that makes total sense! I’m on the west coast, minimal humidity, so I don’t have the same mold issues. But you bring up a great point, mediums and methods are completely dependent on the conditions and environments your plants grow in and that can vary significantly from one side of the continent to the other :)

I have had hoya cuttings in water for over a year! They are Hoya Wayetti (with a Hoya Pubicalyx Royal Flush), Obovata, macrophylla, and nummularoides. They do just fine. I feed them diluted liquid fertilizer and SuperThrive once a month when I change the water. I change the water once a week until the roots grow long. I don’t like removing sphagnum moss off delicate hoya roots.
