my hoya wayetii caught root rot 🄲 anyone have any tips for treating rotten hoya? i’ve removed all of the mushy roots as far as possible and plan to soak them in a mild hydrogen peroxide solution. the nursery potted a bunch of cuttings in too big of a pot, which i only just realized unfortunately. we’re going down two sizes (from 6ā€ to 4ā€) since a big portion of the roots are gone now. my biggest question is: is there any hope for the cuttings where rot has spread to the node? they’re still firm, but some have barely any root left.

My first hoya’s root rot incident was in a wayetti in a 6 inch pot. Lots of small plants in too much soil. Plus the potting mix was only mixed well at the top. The bottom 2/3 was compressed wood chips that held water. I had the plant over a week without watering and rot set in. I dumped the soil and let it dry out a week. I put one piece in water after removing the rot. The others slowly recovered in soil. The piece in water grew a lot of new roots. I discovered SuperThrive at that point time.

i had forgotten about superthrive. thank you for the reminder, i will have to get some soon. it’s unfortunate that growers can be so lazy or cheap with their plants, especially more delicate ones like succulents and hoya. i’m still grateful that mine was okay, though slow growing, until winter hit. i purchased it this spring
