Is it normal, or rather ok that this Hoya is throwing out so many white leaves? I know the leaves that have color were diseased from over watering, I got this plant from someone else. I mean it’s beautiful but how will it photosynthesize with so many white ones? They have been like this for months. They haven’t dropped any of them, but haven’t changed in color either. Thanks for any advice or opinions !

My Alexa was telling me it’s Hoyas way of saying it is loving the light level!? Not sure, but there’s that.

0 likesA stem that's started producing totally white leaves will only be able to make more white leaves as it grows. Since these can't photosynthesize, it can be a problem for the plant. To get the stem making green again, you need to trim it in a section that still has some green. White leaves are liked for decorative value, and most plants can support a few, so it's your job to help keep a balance of enough green to support the purely decorative leaves. Hoyas can successfully support a lot more white than most species, but you should still try to keep at least one stem doing mostly green. Quality lighting also helps support extreme variegation. In most plants, variegated leaves can be prone to sunburn, but in hoyas it tends to blush to a nice pink/red instead

I have this one. And she just love her best white leaf life.
I really hope it will survive so many white leaves, it really is so gorgeous. People pay premiums for variegation, so it’s nice that this plant is doing it on its own and staying that way…. So far
0 likesMy Hoya crimson queen did the same thing. It can’t photo synthesize with those white leaves. The trick to get those branches to put out the typical crimson queen leaves idle to cut it back. Not just the white leaves but back to the green, white node. Then it will grow the two tone variegated leaves. I did this with mine. The first time I o it cut off the white leaves and they grew back more white leaves. So I cut it back further (which meant cutting off one good leaf) and after cutting off the last variegated leaf, it grew out perfect.
1 like Problem with that is, there are only a few leaves that aren’t white and are the very beginning leaves. And those leaves are diseased. So I guess I can cut back, to where it was originally propagated… back to a small plant. BUT wouldn’t be able to cut back any more since that’s the entire plant. But since I love these specific Hoyas, I broke down and bought myself a new, MUCH larger Krimson lol.
I only had five leaves h th at were green. And I had to cut one of them off. It survived the trim. Yes it was hard to do but t just cutting off the white leaves won’t fix the problem.
