Any ideas on how to clean the leaves on my Hoya? I know I can dunk it in water but it’s just so close to the soil and I’ve had problems with fungus gnats before so I’d rather not get the top soil wet. The leaves are a weird shape so I’m not sure how to go about it. Any ideas??
Get a cheap blush brush and you can spray it down with insecticidal soap then suds with the brush. You will have to rinse with water but if you keep it somewhere with some airflow, like near an open window, it’ll help the soil dry faster. Gnats are from consistent moisture and an abundance of organic matter. If you can shorten the amount of time your soil stays wet, it the best way to prevent gnats. I like a 2 week schedule so there’s a little drought period between.

2 likes Any insecticidal soap you recommend? I usually use peppermint Castile soap but I don’t want to get this plant mad at me for doing something wrong 😭
2 likes I get the safer concentrate off Amazon. It’s super safe (heheheh) and has never caused leaf burn for me. I spray indoor and outdoor.
1 like I’ve found my plants to be more light sensitive with the peppermint Castille soap. May just be me though

I also like to use mosquito bits when watering to help get rid of fungus gnat eggs
0 likes Yes so I did that and I took the advice of another commenter and cleaned the leaves with a brush and some insecticidal soap and she looks so much better
