Hey everyone! I bought this Hoya, not sure which, at a big box store. Itâs planted in a peat based soil. Should I repot in something more airy? I feel as though the peat holds on to too much moisture. Thanks!

I think itâs a âLisa.â PlantyAnn has some good advice. Iâll also pitch in to say: keep a close eye on the peat in the mean time. I personally have a grudge against peat lol. It will stay wet for a long time and then when it does dry, it gets a bit hydrophobic, making water just roll off the top. So be aware that youâll want it to be rather dry before watering, but you might have to let the water soak in with a saucer

It is a Hoya australis lisa and I wouldnât recommend pest moss as a potting mix for Hoya. It retains a lot of moisture. These big box stores put everything in the same potting mix and we know they have different needs. Put I alway assume that all their plants have fungus gnats. If one plant has them them they all have them because they keep them bunched up together. So if I purchase from them I always repot before I put it with my other plants. If you want to keep it in peat moss Iâd at least amend it to make it more airy and chunky.

Is it peat or cocoa coir. Not a lot of difference but coir doesnât seem to hold water as much.

It is a hoya australis lisa. I moved mine to leca mixed with pumice, lava rock and zeolite (like a diy pon) 4 months ago to get rid of soil and it is growing a lot, super happy. đ

Good to know! I ended up repotting mine. Itâs in a holding pattern as far as growth is concerned. But itâs still green, so I have hope.
