My Hoya Elliptica is on her third set of blooms this summer!š. All of my hoyas go inside in about a month when night temperatures drop too low for them (Coastal South Texas, zone 9). Iām happy to see her blooming again before she goes in. šŖ“š

1 j'aime Thank you!š I highly recommend getting a Hoya Elliptica. This one grew very fast and bloomed when I placed it in direct morning sunlight. Itās sun bleached in the photo. Itās typically a dark green leaf plant. It probably needs more fertilizer than Iām giving it which adds to the current pale color. Itās in the original 4 inch pot. šŖ“š
0 J'aime Oh wow! Still in a 4ā pot! Its vines look like itās a big plant!!! Iāll def have to check out the elliptica is this the one with fuzzy suede stems? I have a Lisa right now, but want a heuschkeliana outer variegated next.
1 j'aime I donāt repot unless the plant is suffering. Hoyas can get very large in small pots because they are shallow root tree and rock climbing vines (epiphytes). They get water from rain that runs off the trees or rocks they climb in their native habitat. No need for long roots. I water more often when I donāt repot each year to support the growing plant. Fertilizing is a must in the warmer months.
1 j'aime Itās not that fuzzy. The stems are more woody than the typical vining hoya. So, they stick out like a shrub instead of trailing or climbing. Iām sure the stems will eventually dangle from weight issues as the plant grows. I have a few older stems that are already dangling. I donāt see any noticeable aerial roots on it. I love my two pots of Hoya Heuschkelianas! One is a plain green variety with yellow flowers. The other is a mix of green and variegated Heuschkeliana in one 8 inch pot that will have all pink flowers. The plain green one blooms often putting out new growth and yellow flowers each week even in winter. The variegated ones have not bloomed. But, they are growing long. I suspect the energy is going into filling up the soil with more roots. Both the pink and yellow flowers smell like buttered popcorn. Zoom in to see the flowers. They are tiny.
Oh thatās so interesting! Theyāre like orchids it seems! And good to know they donāt need a repot every year. Mine are just babies, I got it in a 3ā pot with 5 stems which seemed crowded so itās in a 2.5ā and itās OG 3ā pot.

Darn!) the blooms are sooooo cute i canāt wait to get blooms on mine, but I guess sheās too young yet. Barely 4ā tall! You have such beautiful hoyas (and plants in general) I hope mine grow up to be as nice as yours!
