My mom has an absolutely massive hoya that I took a clipping from about two years ago. I’ve heard it can take a long time for hoyas to become established and mine has grown a few leaves but very slowly. I currently have it hanging in my East facing window and am wondering if I should move it to the west window to get more light (the east window has a lot of trees in front of it and only gets 3-4 hours of sunlight a day). Wondering what the best way to promote more growth is.

I suspect that your Hoya is putting its energy into growing roots as that pot is slightly large for the size of plant. They like to be a little root bound. It could be a lighting issue, the pot size , humidity, or you could have mites. If it’s mites, you’ll need a microscope to see them (you can order a digital one that connects to your phone pretty cheap online). If you look up “broad mites” online you’ll see some of the symptoms and treatments.

I have some Hoyas thriving in an unobstructed east facing window, so it could be the obstructions, but I also I agree with Snappity’s sentiments. Two years is a long time for minimal growth though. How do you fertilize?

Thanks everyone. I have moved it to a brighter location and I’m going to use orchid fertilizer on it. I suspect the pot is too big for it as mentioned as well.
