Hello! I’m very new to hoyas and was wondering if anybody has tips! I was given a very long cutting from my friend’s dad and I cut it into many pieces! It’s starting to grow roots now! How long do I have to wait to transfer it to soil? Will it also grow new stem and leaves?? Does anyone know what kind this is?
Looks like H. carnosa. What color sap did it have? Clear or white? H. carnosa sap is not white. It’s more clear. The sap color will always help you narrow down the species to H. carnosa. It will most definitely grow stems and leaves.! I usually wait until the roots are around 3 inches and transfer to well draining substrate.

I did not know that about the Hoya sap. Is there a good resource online that tells you what color sap different Hoya plants have once you do know its color?
1 mi piace It’s either clear or white. Clear is what differentiates carnosa.
0 Mi piace You’ll see the sap again one day. I stick with carnosa. Possibly a cross, there is no way to give a definitive id on a cultivar that came unlabeled. It’s nice though. It should grow well for you 😊

I water prop ALL the time, it’s my favorite method for Hoya! If you’re going to pot each cutting individually while they’re small to acclimate them to soil, these roots are fine. If you’re looking to pot all together, I’d let the roots double in length before transferring to soil. Hoya have small root systems and like for them to be compact, make sure your pot is the appropriate size, not too big. Make sure to keep your soil consistently moist following transfer to soil so that your roots don’t dry up and die, killing your cuttings. They will definitely produce new growth points, leaves, runners, etc. once they’re established. It’s growing season now, so you may not see much new growth until this time next year. Looks like a classic Carnosa to me, could be crossed with a Pubicalyx but it’s so hard to tell. It looks like an older portion of the mother plant as its stems are very woody so keep an eye out for new growth at the node instead of at the tips of the cuttings, they’re likely dead ended.
