Someone along the way asked about killing mealybugs with alcohol or maybe they asked if what they had was a mealybug. So, this is a highly magnified before and after pic of what they look like alive and dead. If you spray perlite with alcohol, it stays white. Just sayin’ that when you aim the alcohol swab or spray at a mealybug and say “oh you’re toast” they actually are 🤣

I know this post is old, but this is a pretty cool macro shot I got of some mealies on my pothos a week or so ago. I just used a cheap macro lens I bought forever ago on my iPhone. It works pretty well and doubles as a microscope when you aren’t sure what that white fuzzy spot on your plant is 😆. Oh, also, I used the Camera + 2 app. It does better for macro then the stock iPhone camera. Not sure if you have iPhone or not, but I’m sure there are similar products/apps for other phones.

I do have a macro lens for iPhone if I think to grab it lol. I also use a microscope for pests too small to see with the macro lens. Nice shot!

I haven’t found any bugs, yet, but found a clump of what I think is the telltale sign of them on one of my plants. It’s on the stem. I’m going to treat this plant, but am not sure what I need to do to make sure I get rid of them! I’ve got the treatment plan on the Planta app - is that the best way? It just says to use a jet stream to get rid of the webbing or bugs and then treat with insecticidal soap. I don’t have any at the moment - anything else I can use in the meantime?

Or is that a bug on the stem below the clump?

Yes definitely. Alcohol what you see first. Then water rinse with a stiff spray. Then treatment of choice. I like pure crop one.

Just spray with rubbing alcohol? Do you think that’s a big on the stem? I got some insecticidal soap spray yesterday to treat it, too. Do I need to leave it quarantined (it’s in my garage) while it’s in treatment? And, how do I know it’s safe to bring back with the rest of my plants? Sorry for all of the questions!
