Can someone educate me on macrophylla vs latifolia? Are they the same thing? The internet is confusing me! Found this at meijers today and the label says carnosa splash which is definitely incorrect lol.

That’s a loaded question lol. You have a latifolia (outer variegated) The name macrophylla has been a mistake for hundreds of years. There are no known Hoya macrophylla in circulation today. I named mine never was. I’ll post another comment regarding some of the history.

Hoya macrophylla Wight.. published 1834 was never valid because Carl Blume had already published Hoya macrophylla Blume, a different taxon, in 1827 and you cannot repeat a name at any denomination level. 3 years later (1837), Hoya macrophylla Wight became Hoya latifolia G.Don when George Don used Robert Wight’s original sheet to fix the illegitimate That should have settled the problem except that Rumphia published this fancy and beautiful illustration of Hoya macrophylla Blume.. which is very clearly to us today Hoya latifolia G.Don. This just further confused things. Hoya macrophylla Blume is the one I referred to that is not yet identified. So, there are none known by that name. Hoya latifolia G.Don is the one that is mislabeled as H. macrophylla.
