I do not follow the apps watering schedule. Just use it as a guide. I’m curious about its timing though and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on it. I have many Hoyas and I can’t figure out why the watering schedule can be anywhere from 11 days to 16. Similar size Hoya, same 3” pot, same lighting. Are some Hoyas known to be thirstier? It makes sense, but all mine seem to average about 12 or 13 days.
I would also like to know the answer to the OP’s question. I am also wondering if the lighting suggestions might be inaccurate. I have a Hoya tricolor that hangs in a south facing window. Planta app says that it is too bright, but she is thriving

0 J'aimeNot all hoyas will tolerate drying up. Not all hoyas have leaves that you can do the ”taco test” with. So i DO NOT recommend that method. Especially if you grow them for the blooms, since some flowers will drop off if you let blooming plants dry up. Some like more water, some less. Thin leafed hoyas are often thirstier, but not always. How big the roots are, how healthy it is etc will also determine how fast it drinks. The soil quality will also determine how fast it dries up, some cheaper soils don’t hold water and nutrients. Hoyas under growlight will be happier and also drink the water faster. A rootbound plant can sometimes dry out fast as well. So there’s a LOT of reasons determing when to water and how much :) Also, some hoyas love direct light. So keep your tricolor in that spot ^^

I always let my Hoya dry out completely between waterings. The plant will tell you if it needs water, the leaves will be slightly wilty. I try not to let it get to that point but if it does it's not the end of the world. I do a deep watering/soak. My Hoya are all in either semi-hydro pon or ONLY coco husk. They thrive in both.
1 j'aime I wait until they’re almost dry as well. Just curious why there’s such a difference in the app. I check when it says to water simply so I don’t lose sight of anyone.
0 J'aime Make sure all of the information is filled out regarding the sizes/media/proximity to heaters, etc. If the soil is still wet and you skip, the app should ask you if it is still wet and will adjust the watering schedule as needed. I also loosely follow the schedule because I have almost 200 houseplants and its not reasonable to follow such a strict schedule. It also isn't what occurs in nature. I pay more attention to the ones that need it, like my alocasia that can't tolerate drying out. Other than that just use it so you dont miss any ☺️

I too use Plantas watering as a suggestion. Mistakes have been made and lessons learned just following the watering schedule blindly. RIP to all my plants that didn’t make it before I figured it out LOL

Oh Planta’s AI watering schedule is terrible and inaccurate. I totally just use it for a self made calendar to keep track of my watering/fertilizing schedule for my 50+ collection
1 j'aime My number one reason for using the app in the first place was to just catalog the plants that I have, so I don’t buy a duplicate by accident when I am out in the wild!🤣🥲🥲
2 J'aime 🤣 yes!!! I do the same thing. Sadly it doesn’t save me from duplicating from propagations when the impulse to chop and prop comes over me

Still trying to figure out how accurate the schedule is. I’ve found pretty good for succulents or cactus but way off on tropicals
