hello! i’m wondering if anyone has any tips to make my hoya carnosa grow. ive had it for several months but havent seen it grow any. photo on the right is how i got it and left photo is today. its in well draining soil with drainage holes and kept about a foot from a grow light. i fertilize it weakly every time i water which is about every 10-12 days.
I’m see lots of new growth in these photos. Hoyas aren’t the fastest growers.

Check the wattage of your grow light. It could not be enough. My mature hoya carnosa stays on my front porch during the summer in very bright indirect light. I find natural light is best for mine. I would also cut back on fertilizing to every other watering. I've just been using an all purpose 2-2-2 fertilizer on mine but one for blooms would work too and some people say their hoya perfer it. But my biggest suggestion is just switching up the lighting. Maybe put it directly in a window that you leave the blinds open on.
2 likes thank you for your response! it is a 5000w grow light. i unfortunately live in an apartment with northeast facing windows so i dont get a lot of light. do you think i should get a second/stronger grow light?
0 likes Hmm that should be enough I would think. The new pot it's in is definitely a little big though. They tend to grow more when they are root bound. So it could just be taking a long time to acclimate after the repot. If anything fertilize less down to every other watering and you could repot it an inch down in a chunky soil mix.

The pot is huge compared to the previous one. Hoyas like smaller pots with chunky airy soil. It could be growing roots to fill the pot since it takes 12 days for the soil to dry out.
3 likes it was root bound/in straight potting soil, so i moved it to a bowl type pot with drainage (2” wider than the root ball but not deeper). do you think thats why? should i have put it in something deeper but less wide?
1 like I don’t think it’s a depth issue. It could just be putting most of its energy into the root system. It will start growing out when it’s ready.

Spiritually, Hoya plant is a blessing for the home. Each leaf represents a new blessing, hence why it’s a slow grower. Mine grows slow, too, but having pics to compare showed the new leaf growths that I missed.
