Plant Hoarder 🌱

I’m a novice plant connoisseur. I picked up this Hoya plant a few years ago. It has grown rapidly in length but it stopped creating more leaves. It has latched itself onto my light fixture so I don’t really want to move it. I sat it over a container of rocks and water for humidity. Not in the water. It bloomed this spring, which was a beautiful surprise. I didn’t know they flowered. My question is what do I need to do to encourage leaves to grow at the periphery?

Since this Hoya has bloomed in the window, it has everything it needs to be at its best. It may take a while for it to grow leaves on its vines. If you want to try to leaf growth on the vines, you can remove apical dominance that basically means to pinch the tips of the vines, theoretically stop the vine from growing and tells the Hoya to start putting out leaves down the vine. It’s worth a try.

Thank you. I will try this. So this means simply pinch the tips, not trim the length?

Vining Hoyas such as this one leaf out once they are anchored to something. Even then, they will sometimes leaf up to where they are anchored but not beyond until that is anchored to something.

Pinching back will slow the growth but not encourage branching or leafing. It’s a reasonable option to control size

It magically attached itself to our lamp and back across the window. I will try providing a trellis instead. Thank you so much.
