What could be wrong with my Hoya? These leaves have done this over the past week! Not overwatered - since it's winter here I water her at most every 1.5-2ish weeks. Should I cut the bad off? She's been content for the last 2 years I've had her (just growing slowly). đŸ˜©

Looks to me like something happened to the roots. You might take the plant out of its pot and check for root rot. If the roots are not white and plump, they are dead. This could be caused by under watering (too dry) or over watering since it’s winter and they take longer to dry out. Do you water on a schedule or do you verify that the soil has dried prior to watering? Watering schedules are tricky as there are many factors that contribute to proper water timing.

I did, but now she isn't, she gets watered when I feel and she's dry

The problem could be water retention at the bottom of the pot. Some of us use a bamboo skewer to check and make sure the soil is mostly dry throughout. It works much like a toothpick in a cake— if soil is sticking then don’t water yet. If it comes out clean or has just a little bit of dry-looking soil, then it’s safe to water.

Good idea! For the dead leaves - should I prune?

Yes. They aren’t going to revive when they are that bad. Also, check the roots. If they are dead then you can chop & prop the parts that still look good. It’s a bummer to start over, but the alternative could be to loose the entire plant

It looks severely under watered if the leaves are dry, leathery and turning crispy. It’s good that you are checking the moisture in the soil, now. I have a smaller similar hoya that needs water every 7 days approximately. I check the soil before watering. I agree that propagating the one or two viable nodes may be the best option before the entire plant dries out beyond recovery. 🍀đŸȘŽ

The soil was staying too wet for too long regardless if you feel you watered on time. Hoya need a lot of air to hit their roots and if they stay wet too long because the soil wasn’t “chunky” enough the roots will begin to rot.

Just cut of the alive node, and off with the dead. Here's the roots on the mother. They don't look dead, no?

Yep they look dead. See the hair like parts sticking out. Those are the inside of the root after the outer part rots off.

Damn. Well, I cut the salvageable part off and propagated the healthy look piece at the node. Fingers crossed!
