HELP ME 😩 I’ve got my Burtoniae in pon and water with advice according to Planta. The leaves have just started to look like this the last couple of weeks. Roots all seem to look healthy. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does the pot have a drainage hole?
0件のいいねYes it does! I’m also watering every 10 days.

When I search for Hoya Burtoniae it says water every 18th day and let soil dry up. I would be concerned it’s getting too much water. My Hoyas definitely dry up between watering and I don’t water that frequently. Much less frequently than every 10 days. But it looks like you have it in a chunky, well draining soil so that’s good! I would cut off the damaged leaves and water less frequently.

I recently watched a video about Hoya grown in pon having dry rot because it wasn’t able to hydrate enough. Are the leaves crispy or mushy?
2件のいいねThey are definitely crispy!

I’ve always understood it to be if the leaves are dry and crispy, then the soil most likely got too dry. If the leaves are mushy or yellow, then it was overwatered.
5件のいいねThat’s what I was thinking but I have PTSD from overwatering so I wanted to double check 😅

I’ve received Hoya in Pon and there’s always a small reserve of water at the bottom of the cup, held there by another cache cup or, they’re in a self watering pot with a wick. I might be wrong, but if you’re just letting the water drain completely and you’re watering that infrequently, you’ll likely experience dry rot. I have very few of my Hoya in a chunky soil mix with actual soil, but my Burtoniae is one of them and it thrives. They also endure cooler temps well. I’ve left mine outside year round and only bring it gets below 40°F. If you’re not going to water yours every week, I’d consider switching the media to one that holds moisture longer.

Thank you! She’s a constant bloomer and super easy. Good luck with yours, I hope she brings you lots of smiles!
いいね 1件That is BEAUTIFUL! I will try doing that with a water reserve underneath and hope that fixes the problem! I had a serious problem with overwatering in the past and now I think I’m trying too hard to NOT overwater 🤣

As easy as Hoya plants a can be, some of them are ridiculously temperamental when it comes to their watering schedule. I’m learning that with a few right now and it can be frustrating, I hear ya. My Perak just gave the most gorgeous, fuzzy baby leaf, only to fall off from too much water a month in.😭

There is a transition period when going from soil to pon. With pon the water drains right through. You have to make sure to water enough that the pumice can absorb the water. Soil will automatically retain water when it gets wet. So I would say 10 day is too long. Either water more frequently or give it a reservoir to wick up the water.
いいね 1件I’ve killed 3 of these, the only plant I’ve ever killed repeatedly. 2 soil, 1 got moved to LECA… Good luck!! Maybe pon is the way to go!
いいね 1件Hopefully so 🤣 I haven’t had this much trouble with anything other than Calathea
0件のいいねI don’t have any calatheas but I can definitely understand and relate to that comment 🤣🤣🤣
