Hey yāall Iām fairly new to Hoyas and I have two cuttings that have been propping in water with root hormoneā¦ was this the right way to prop them? Theyāre forming root bumps now but if I should put them in soil over water prop Iād rather not lose them as they are sentimental to me.
Following. I have tried to prop hoya in water but have never succeeded.

Iāve had success with water prop for several hoyas. Remove all leaves below water to prevent rot that leads to bacterial infection. Place at least one leaf node under water. Many hoyas produce roots all along their stems. Place in bright indirect sunlight or under a grow light. Keep it warm. Clean the water weekly or when cloudy. Fertilize when roots emerge. I add SuperThrive Plant Vitamins when fertilizing. Plant the rooted cuttings when the roots are at least two inches long. Continue to fertilize in the warmer months. šŖ“š
I will add that my props sit on the kitchen counter next to my sinks and above the dishwasher which runs nightly. It warms the counter and the glass containers which helps growth. The kitchen tends to be warmer than the rest of the house. My air conditioner is set to a cool 72Ā°F. Cool for South Texas. š. You can use a propagation heat mat under the props if temperatures are cold. Higher humidity helps. Cover the props or add a humidifier. My humidity levels are high in this area. šŖ“š
1 gillaFrom my experience, Iāve had the best results when I put them in soil. Hoyas usually prefer dry soil so letting them propagate in water didnāt work for my clippings. Mine finally grew roots when I put them in soil and watered them every once in a while when the soil dried out.
1 gillaI've water propped my hoyas multiple times. As long as the clipping was calloused over before you put it in water, it should be fine; it just takes a while for the roots to start. Once they start, they grow pretty fast.
1 gilla So I am seeing root bumps on the two cuttings that survived a green and pink variegated and a solid greenā¦ the green and white variegated was the unfortunate casualty of propagation š¤¦āāļøš¤·āāļø
