It’s time for orange aphids to appear, I guess. They have no fear of 95°F temperatures as they climb to the newest most tender vines. This is a Hoya Potsii I acquired about 6 weeks ago. It’s a very fast grower I keep outside. The clean shiny leaves and red stems are the new growth in just 6 weeks! I used an alcohol spray (hand sanitizer) to kill them.

They don’t bc stay away from, unfortunately, since they live outside. I don’t know how they can always find the new growth on each of my hoyas. My other non-hoya plants don’t have aphid issues.

Hmm I don’t know of any aphid repellents, but maybe neem? Not really doable to hose them down daily for a potted plant… 🤔

Thanks for sharing! I found these all over my poor Hoya and assume they are aphids? They are red, and all the pics I find are more greenish, but they are leaving black spots and stick residue on the leaves. I’ve given it an aggressive trim (it was overdue anyway), spritzed the leaves with 90% alcohol, and sprinkled diatomaceous earth on it. Fingers crossed she is okay! I’ve had for at least 7-8 years, a cutting from a dear friend who moved away.

I’ve had black, orange and white/green aphids. They are irritating. 😁 Be careful when putting isopropyl alcohol on leaves. It can quickly kill the plant. I wrapped only the affected area with foil to block the runoff and overspray. I don’t spray it on leaves if I can avoid it. Also, I used old hand sanitizer that contained diluted alcohol. Then, thoroughly washed off the alcohol. 🪴🍀
