New plant owner here, does anyone have any suggestions for growing Hoya plants in sphagnum moss? Do I just place the hoya into the moss directly or do I need to mix the moss with something or add fertilizer?

Are you trying to root a cutting? I've used sphagnum moss and perlite mixed but in all honesty, every Hoya I've propagated does better in (wet) perlite alone. The moss can get pretty tangled with the roots and it's a pain in the ass to untangle when moving to a chunkier substrate. I've never heard of growing a mature Hoya (or any plant) in sphagnum moss alone, there isn't any nutrients. If you do it, consider throwing in some worm casings and horticulture charcoal for nutrients.

I don't use soil.. I use a mixture of coco chips, perlite, horticulture charcoal, lava rock and worm casings. If I can't get coco chips, I'll use chunky orchid bark. If you want to use soil, (i recommend Fox Farms ocean floor) don't use much. Use more coco chips and perlite than dirt. Their roots need to breath.

I grow mine in pon or leca and add liquid fertilizer to the water. It helps to prevent bugs - and pon or leca will give the plant the aerated substrate they need to grow. I add growth technology foliage focus to the water and give it to them in the water reservoir.

You can get some orchid bark, fox farm ocean forest(less of this) and #3 perlite. Add worm castings and they should be happy. All available on Amazon. Water when dry. If rooting keep moist at all times. Enjoy!
