A mild mealy bug infestation so the secret weapon was released! 🐞 Did you know if neem oil or alcohol is used too often or too concentrated it will kill your Hoyas? Better safe than sorry! 🐞🐞🐞

I had an infestation on my orchid and didn’t know what they were. I wish I knew this trick before I just stuck it outside to die🥲

Did you release the lady bug inside? I have my first semi mild mealy infestation on some plants inside my chameleon cage, so I ordered lacewing eggs. A few hatched several days ago, but it doesn’t seem like the rest will hatch. I found some eggs outside on a leaf though so I put that in last night. The good thing is that once they are adults, my chameleon will eat them 😁. I do have two other plants outside of the cage though that have WERE in the cage a while back and I just noticed mealies on them as well. Those I treated with Dead AF (which is a mixture of a bunch of oils), but they weren’t Hoyas. I had been wondering about what stuff I could put on Hoya leaves though since they are a different consistency than regular plants, so thank you for this post.

Yeah! I have a bug net around my Hoya with about 12 ladies inside with a popsicle stick with nectar they came with it honestly smells like peanut butter 😅. That’s awesome they are laying eggs! You gave them optimal living awesome job, I’m so happy I could help!

Ladybugs are not a great predator. If you’re trying to do integrated pest management, lacewing larvae or mealie bug destroyers are better choices. Neem will definitely kill the ladybugs.

I prefer this method over bad experiences with neem oil, such as skin irritation, toxic to other beneficial bugs, and using it then rinsing off the monthly dust in the future after use is also extremely toxic to aquatic life; so I don’t use it. They are also inexpensive compared to lacewing, but thank you for your opinion 😊. It’s been a week and the ladybugs are thriving and the mealy bugs are dwindling 😌💕.
