My Hoya Elliptica finally put out a full healthy set of blooms and they are very juicy! The nectar has a light sugary flavor. I’m not sure if it will attract ants since it’s outside on a stool. Before you ask, I’m not a card carrying member of the hoya licking community! I didn’t even know nectar eating was a “thing” until recently! Hoya people be different!😄

Today was the first time tasting hoya nectar. That was enough. 😂

This post made me laugh. I have definitely tried it. Err… more than once 🫣 but to be clear there was no taste bud to flower bloom contact 🤣 She’s so pretty btw. You’re like the Hoya blooming fairy over there!

I just found a happy northeast facing wall that gives them 4 hours of full sunlight starting at sunrise. They are in very bright shade the rest of the day. They are getting mostly rainwater every week because of storms. I use 50% diluted Miracle Gro plus SuperThrive plant vitamins.

Didn't know Hoyas had sugary sap. Natural sweetner for your tea? 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 Edit: (Please don't I'm just joking lol)

Several hoyas need a drip cup below the blooms to prevent the sticky nectar from dripping on floors/furniture. You can collect nectar like collecting maple tree sap.

NO way that's INSANE! Kinda a deal breaker for me ngl. I'll stick with dry plants lol :)

I think Mike is onto some thing. 🤣 Anyway, there is an old publication of medicinal uses for Hoya. It’s pretty interesting.

Wow! This is so gorgeous! I am scared to add a Hoya to my collection in fear of not keeping it happy 😭

I found out about hoyas a year ago. They are very low maintenance. They rarely get root bound. Their leaves hold moisture longer than the typical tropical plant. So, they are usually well behaved. Overwatering is the only thing I’m cautious about. They like a chunky coconut husk potting medium with perlite and even charcoal bits because it holds moisture without being soggy and it drys fast. Start with Carnosa variety like Hoya Krimson Queen, Hoya Australis Lisa, or Hoya Krimson Princess. Hoya Curtisii is a good one with adorable small leaves. 🌸

You inspired me & Fate called my name when I went to my local green house and I saw they had a couple Hoyas! I ended up picking a Carnosa Krimson Queen! Excited to see her grow and hopefully blossom!
