How to fertilize your airplant

Air plants don’t require much fertilizing, but feeding them once in a while will promote blooming and reproduction (pups!).

Water bath with fertilizer

  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water

  • Mix a small dose of fertilizer into the water

  • Place your air plant in the water and let it sit for 20-60 minutes

  • Lift it up and make sure you shake off all excess water

  • Place upside down on a towel in a bright place with good air circulation

  • Let it dry for about 1-3 hours

Note

Make sure the Air Plant is dry within 3 hours, and check that no water is left in the base

Spray with fertilizer

If you placed your Airplant inside a container you can spray it with a fertilizer solution.

  • Fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water

  • Add a small dose of fertilizer and mix

  • Mist around your plant, and not into it, to avoid water getting logged in its base - which can cause it to rot

Dosage

  • For small containers: 1 spray

  • Medium containers (3-5 inches): 2-3 sprays

  • Large containers: 3 or more sprays

Feeding Airplants increases the chance that they will reproduce.
