This is a bean plant I grew from seed.
The purple spots have been on the first leaves since they sprouted in their nursery pot. The yellow spoting on the stem is new…

Any ideas of what’s going on? This is my first time growing beans and food in general.

The yellowing leaves and dark spots on this bean plant suggest a few possible issues. One common cause is nitrogen deficiency, which leads to yellowing (chlorosis), especially in older leaves. The dark specks could also indicate a fungal disease like anthracnose or rust, particularly if conditions have been humid or airflow is limited. Another possibility is pest activity—tiny black or brown spots might be droppings or the pests themselves, such as spider mites or thrips. It’s also possible the plant is experiencing stress from sudden sun exposure or transplant shock. To help the plant recover, consider fertilizing with a balanced or nitrogen-rich fertilizer, inspect the undersides of leaves for pests, improve airflow around the plant, and avoid overhead watering. If pests are found, a neem oil or insecticidal soap treatment can help. Happy planting 🩷
