# I’m growing eggplants for the first time and I just sprouted my first…

_Posted by Snowstorm on 2024-08-27_

I’m growing eggplants for the first time and I just sprouted my first 2, and now that they’re bigger I’ve noticed they’ve got some white hairs on them. Is this normal? I can’t seems to find anything on google and dr. Planta is just suggesting a repot.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen that either. My only hypothesis is the seeds are growing from the inside. Has it gotten a lot of water recently? I’ve seen tomatoes do that from overwatering.

It did rain a tonne last week. I let them dry out and only watered today after they started to get droopy and wilty.

Should I pick them maybe? And would they still be edible?

I’d be tempted to pick one and cut it in half just to see what’s going on lol

It also depends on what variety of eggplant some are full grown at that shape\&size

These are black beauty eggplants and the bigger one is about the size of a tangerine and the smaller about a golf ball.
