Starting some peppers from seed and currently have the “pots” in the garage. I’m concerned the garage will get too cold/dark as the winter comes, and have been considering grow lights on a timer. Does anyone have experience with starting vegetable plants from seed? Any recommendations on tips/tricks to get them through the winter successfully?

You will need a grow light. These need at least 6 or more hours of full sun to produce crop.  
There are heating mats used to start seeds. Check online.
