Has anyone been able to grow saffron?

I love cooking with saffron and it’s so expensive! It’s a Mediterranean plant.

Is it possible to grow some in Florida?

(I’m not that good at gardening, fyi)

Saffron comes from the crocus flower. You can get 2-3 threads from each flower. It’s hand picked. So, it’s labor intensive. The cost of the best saffron is several thousands of dollars per pound making it the most expensive spice worldwide! It’s not the stuff of home gardening. 🌸

it would take around 160 crocus flowers to make just one gram of saffron. possible sure, but feasible? maybe not so much
