I recommend using a pot much smaller than the current pot. Succulents like pots that are just big enough to hold the root ball with a little room to grow. The plant should be able to use up all the water in the soil very quickly with no excess left to cause root rot. Succulents, like cacti, are sold in small pots like in the picture.

Also, the top of the soil is too deep in the pot. The top of the soil should be within 1/4 inch from the rim. This allows better air circulation and quicker drying of the soil. Succulents don’t like their roots sitting in water for long periods. It leads to root rot.

Make sure to use a potting mix labeled for succulents which quickly drains. Standard potting mix stays wet too long. 🍀🪴
