# I was given a Christmas cactus to revive.. it was very overwatered…

_Opslået af Whimsy den 2024-02-01_

I was given a Christmas cactus to revive.. it was very overwatered and in a pot with no drainage, I transferred it into a plastic pot with drainage and gave it some dryer soil! Any advice? The place I have it right now is low-moderate light with shade in the morning until around 10.. it gets sunnier in the summer, where it gets lots of bright light.

I bought a holiday cactus from the grocery store, and it that overwatered, too. I dried it out overnight. For several weeks now it’s been on a shelf near a 20W grow light that I keep on 5-6 hours and it has put out new growth. According to the app they need lots of humidity (which my home doesn’t have) so I don’t know how long it will last. But it seems to like the light!

My town has 80%-90% humidity according to my weather app so my plants are fairly happy.. I also have a humidifier for the dryer months, but I’ll see if I need to move it towards more light, my mum has one by the window and it’s thriving and putting out so much growth!! I’ll add a picture

I rescued one that was very underwatered, and it took a few months before it really rebounded. I live in very dry humidity (25%) and that doesn’t seem to bother it, it gave me beautiful blooms at Christmas. Bright light and water only when it’s dried out are the best thing for it. I also bottom water mine.

Oh! Glad to know of that humidity isn’t a problem. Mine”s been doing so well with the bright light after I sorted out the watering., So I’m hopeful.

Cacti can handle direct sun but with every plant it’s nice to ease it into a new home. So if it’s not used to direct light put it in briefly for a few days before letting it sit in direct more.

Sounds like you did everything right just make sure not to water till the top of the soil is dried out
