# Update! Got the succulent and cactus repotted. How much sun do they…

Update! Got the succulent and cactus repotted. How much sun do they need? I face the north so I never have direct sunlight. But it looks like this majority of the day, getting indirect sunlight as shown. Is this enough? Or should I move it closer to the window?

Need more light. Full sun if possible

The best light you’re going to get inside is through a south facing window, so they definitely need that bright indirect light. But like Women are Water said, full sun is preferred.

You will need a dedicated grow light about 4-6 inches above the pot for 10-12 hours a day.

They definitely need lots of light. A lifesaver for me was a grow light. Highly recommend

Hello. You have two different type of succulent cacti in the pot so the answer is complex.

Your taller hairy cacti would be fine in any window where it gets direct sun light, preferably afternoon sunlight.

The other plant though could suffer from being that close to a window.

This season I have noticed due to death of one cacti that window draft was a greater threat than I realized, especially at night when thicker curtains were closed and they are on a window sill.

I am not saying I agree with the following but found it interestingly true.

In 2022 I saw on on FaceBook how a guy places all his cacti in his basement an allows them to all go dormant. The basement. Not a big area where sun gets and he did not have any grow lights.

So again the answer is mixed. The tall guy can be in the window but the short guy may die in draft. Pull them back and the tall guy should be fine for the winter season the short guy could still perish for lack of sun but will most likely get leggy reaching for the light, even if you have a grow light it will become leggy.

All of the plants in this image are in front of me and as I typed this the window is behind me as I sit on the couch.
