# Hi all! A few questions about my succulent: 1. Does anyone know what…

Hi all! A few questions about my succulent:

1\. Does anyone know what it is? I’ve had for about a year now and I’m still not sure!

2\. I chopped off the top a couple months ago because I had it under a grow light which caused it to get lanky, and now it’s had new growth over there, I’m just not sure what I should do with it?

3.I plucked out a couple drying leaves at the bottom most layer just before taking these pictures, will the bottom layer continue to die out as the top continues to grow?

4\. It’s very easy for me to pull the plant and its ball of dirt out of the soil, I have to be super careful not to whenever I’m plucking out dead leaves. So this tells me it still hasn’t rooted itself properly into the soil. I last repotted it 6 months ago or so. Is this cause for concern?

2\. If you want only compact growth at the base of the plant, you can wait until the new pups are larger and cut them off to propagate. But I personally think the hydra look is interesting.

3\. You should let lower leaves dry up and fall off on their own. Succulents naturally do this to reabsorb nutrients and water to divert them to areas of growth like roots and pups. If you’re plucking them off before they’re fully dry then you’re not giving the plant its fill of nutrients to reabsorb. This isn’t really an avoidable process since the plant should ideally always be growing somewhere.

4\. It’s not a cause of concern. Just be more careful when you’re watering so that you don’t overwater and let the plant fall out. Also be more careful of knocking over the pot.

This to me kinda looks like a cobweb buttons plant but I would need to see the top 🤷🏼‍♀️

These things are so prolific they spread outside like weeds even up here in 5B

This is so surprising to hear! They grow outdoors even if 5B? I’m in Chicago so technically 5B

If they're what I think they are then yes! It doesn't make any sense - my neighbor has them as ground cover in part of her landscaping - so does my salon come to think of it!

Although…Vivienne might be onto something with the cobweb houseleek…it’s hard to tell because it’s small but the webbing hmm…

This is what it looks like from the top, there definitely is a very very small amount of webbing

Well whether it’s the cobweb or the other thing I’m thinking of called I think a Turkish Stonecrop - it’s cold weather hardy. Low-growing generally.

It’s tricky to ID the little ones! I say just keep doing whatever you’re doing and trust that it’s hardy, whatever it is, fertilize it and it will probably spread outwards with pups
