# Ok, so I’ve been trying to propagate a Burro’s tail succulent and so…

_Publicado por ABucketOfPlants el 2024-02-18_

Ok, so I’ve been trying to propagate a Burro’s tail succulent and so far they’re doing good. I’ve been spraying the soil 2 two times a day but recently I’ve realized there was a white cover of mold above the soil, so I dug out the top of the soil and readjusted the cuttings. I’m not dumb and I know mold grows beyond the surface but I haven’t seen any more mold and I was wondering how long I should wait before trying to spray the cuttings with water to avoid the mold regrowing, and just how to prevent the mold in the future.

No need to spray them that much. They will do better with more neglect.

Alright, thanks!

I’m trying adding some vermiculite to the top of the soil to see if it helps with mold and it keeps the soil moist. I’m propagating jade leaves (crassula ovata) and last year I watered them way too much so they all melted with rot! 😭 It’s hard to keep soil moist and not wet. Good luck with yours! 😊🍀

I completely ignore mine, occasionally water, and I think I only misted them once ever, and they seem to be growing just fine! I do also live in a humid area though

i agree with the other comments, that’s a lot of watering in general but especially for a succulent. when i propagate my burro’s tail from leaves i just lay them on top of succulent soil and bottom water when it’s completely dry. periods of drought will help your succulents root faster

Also, not only do they thrive on neglect, it takes a LONG time for them to grow! It’s a very slow process so be patient.

Here are mine - 3 years of neglect!

I only water them with rainwater when they’re BONE dry. I don’t touch them and I’ve never fertilized them (I know I should).
