Hi! Any idea what kind of succulent this is? Should I be worried about the top?

Looks like an echeveria. And it looks fairly healthy. Perhaps the top (rose) was cut to replant due to the leggy growth at the bottom. New growth should appear soon if regular care schedule is continued.

Thank you so much!

Echeveria leaves are typically thinner, flatter, and wider.

This looks looks a sedum of some sort. Hard to tell exact variety until it gets sun stressed to show more of its coloring. Here’s a similar variety for comparison.

Did you buy this or given by a friend/family member? It looks like either the growth tip died or was cut off. Can you ask the seller or giver what happened (unless it was a big box store)?

The tip could have died due to bugs, rot, cold, etc.

Or it could have been a chop and prop like the previous commenter pointed out. Sedums naturally have more spacing between leaves but this one looks excessive to me. If they chopped it, that is probably why. Or they thought it was supposed to stand straight up like an echeveria? Or maybe they cut the top off to sell?

It would have stretched due to lack of light and also needs good lighting to put off new growth. I don’t know if it can put out new growth from the tip, it might be too dead. But it will probably push out new growth from the stem where the leaves are connected as long as you give it proper light and water. I would put it somewhere for two weeks and if it doesn’t show any new leaves, move it somewhere a little brighter until it starts putting off new leaves.

Just to keep you from having other issues with this plant, here are some general care instructions. 😊 They need a well draining soil like a cactus soil with a hole in the bottom of the pot for drainage. When you water them, you water them until the water starts running out of the bottom. I even advise you do that a couple times in a row (within a couple minutes) to make sure all the dirt got wet. Then you set it aside until the bottom leaf look a little wrinkly. That’s how they show you that they need water. Succulents store water in their leaves not the dirt, so they need to sit in dry dirt in between waterings.

If your plant does not suck up all the water, within a day or so of you watering, you are either watering too soon, have the wrong kind of dirt, or too big of a pot. They need a pot that the roots can reach the bottom of so they can suck up all the water and then sit and dry dirt. If they sit in wet dirt all the time, their roots will rot.

Looks like it’s doing alright at the moment, just needs more light. 😊 Gradually move it to more light so the leaves don’t burn. Definitely check on what happened with whoever you got it from.❤️

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful! I did get this from a friend but I don’t think she even remembers where she got it from :( she wasn’t much of a plant person so she tried a succulent thinking it would be easy to care for but wanted me to take it to better its chances of living… I will try to make sure it gets plenty of sun!
